Auqib Nabi Claims Maiden International Wicket, Dismisses Two New Zealand Openers

Auqib Nabi finally claims his maiden international wicket in the second India vs New Zealand ODI after two missed opportunities. The 30-year-old pacer dismisses Tim Seifert and Will Young as rain delays play in Wellington.

Auqib Nabi has finally opened his international wicket account, claiming his maiden international wicket during the second ODI between India and New Zealand. The 30-year-old pacer, who made his debut during the ODI series against West Indies, dismissed two New Zealand batters after missing out on wickets in his first two appearances due to dropped catches.

Nabi had come close to taking his first international wicket on the final delivery of his debut match, but Kuldeep Yadav dropped a straightforward catch. He was denied another opportunity in the following match when Naman Dhir dropped a catch off his bowling. However, the wait ended in the second ODI against New Zealand.

Auqib Nabi Dismisses Tim Seifert

Nabi's first international wicket came in the second over of India's innings, when New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert played the ball towards mid-off. Anshul Kamboj moved forward and took an excellent diving catch, sending Seifert back to the pavilion without scoring.

Interestingly, Seifert was also the batter whose catch Naman Dhir had dropped off Nabi's bowling in the first ODI. Seifert is playing in New Zealand's playing XI in place of Devon Conway, who was ruled out of the India ODI series.

During his third over, Nabi conceded a boundary on the second delivery but bounced back on the fourth ball to claim Young's wicket. The delivery outside the off stump took an edge and travelled behind the wicket. KL Rahul dived to his right and completed an excellent catch.

Young scored seven runs off 17 deliveries before departing, giving Nabi his second wicket of the innings.

Second ODI Reduced to 47 Overs per Side

The second ODI between India and New Zealand is being played over 47 overs per side due to rain in Wellington. The ground was wet, delaying the start of the match by an hour.

The match was originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM Indian Standard Time, but the first ball was bowled at 8:30 AM. The toss, initially scheduled for 7 AM, eventually took place at 8:05 AM.

After missing out on wickets in his first two matches, Nabi finally registered his maiden international wicket against New Zealand. He went on to dismiss both opening batters, Tim Seifert and Will Young, making his contribution significant in the early stages of the second ODI.
